Northstar Knights 18U Prep teammates Dawson McCann and Brady Jones committed to junior teams this week. McCann, a Minot, ND native committed to the Steinbach Pistons of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. The Pistons are in 2nd place in the east division and advanced to the finals last season. An injury in November 2021 caused him to miss most of the season last year but McCann has come roaring back this season and currently ranked 3rd on the Knights in scoring with 35 points (15G, 20A) in 30 games played with 6 points (3G, 3A) coming on the power play. “Dawson has made great strides over the past year both physically, in his maturation as an athlete and commitment to his off-ice development, and spiritually as a young man and leading by example amongst his teammates”, said Strength and Conditioning Coach, Josh Freitas. “Dawson has a real heart to ‘serve’ those around him. Whether that is him using his skills from the farm to put his hands to work around the sports complex or school or simply encouraging his teammates he has grown in each of these areas so much. I have no doubt that he will use all the gifts that God has given him to glorify the Lord and bring the Love of Christ to the hockey world and his future teammates in Steinbach.” The Knights are proud of all the hard work Dawson has done to earn this opportunity. “I’m super excited to be going to a team that has a very positive and supporting atmosphere”, said McCann. “I am thankful for my family, teammates and coaches for helping me get to this point.”

Jones committed to the Utah Outliers in the National Collegiate Development Conference. The Outliers are currently in first place in the Mountain division of the USPHL Premier league. Next season, they will make the jump to the NCDC which is the top league in the USPHL. In 29 games played, Jones has registered 11 points (3G, 8A) with 3 assists coming on the Power Play. He’s been a part of a solid blueline core who has only allowed 22 shots against per game and 2.10 goals against per game. “Congratulations to Brady Jones and to the Utah Outliers”, said Coach Tim Jackman. “Brady has shown perseverance in the 3 years he has attended Northstar Christian Academy. As a coach, it makes us proud to see a young man grow in maturity in his game and how he handles his day-to-day responsibilities. He will be a great attrition with his vision and his shot and how he has continued to learn how to defend.” Jones played in a 2 game stint with the Outliers over Christmas break and registered 1 assist. “I’m really grateful for this opportunity,” Jones said. “I would like to thank the people around me – My coaches, friends and family for pushing me along the way. I can’t wait to be a part of the team and I’m excited to be an Outlier!”
