FAQ's

Q: What’s included in tuition and how much does the Academy cost?

A: Not all encompassing but as some examples the tuition covers staff salaries, ice time, apparel and equipment, hotels, all travel transportation, road meals, video analysis software, and the online school platform.

Q: What are the breaks?

A: In season, the Academy operates on a Tuesday-Friday schedule with games usually being played on Saturdays and Sundays. Mondays are off-days. The Academy has a week off for Thanksgiving, 2.5 weeks off for Christmas/New Years and a week off for spring break. The game season will end around mid March, however the Academy is still fully active through the first week in May. Once games end, the schedule will shift to a traditional Monday through Friday.

Q: What is the Northstar facility like?

A: Northstar’s facilities include 2 buildings – The Academic building and Rink Complex. The Academic building consists of a chapel, 3 classrooms,a lounge, private study areas, and a full kitchen. The Rink complex features state of the art locker rooms, weight room, full ice sheet, training and medical room, private sauna, laundry room, chapel and coaches offices. Q: How do we pair players with billet families?

A: Each player is given a questionnaire to fill out and each billet family is vetted and visited. Northstar uses a Billet Coordinator to do their very best to match the right players with generous families who open their homes in the Alexandria community. Players are usually paired with another player and are taken into account with players who can and cannot drive.

Q: Is there an opportunity for Financial Aid?

A: There are opportunities for scholarship. However these are limited and are only available due to year to year donations that they are reliant upon. Our coaches will work with families based on financial need and will be sent a scholarship application once a conversation has been had with the coaching staff and a possible fit is seen for both sides.
